問：In the path、on the path這兩個說法，那個正確？

答：兩個說法都正確，但意思不同。In the path指「在路上」或「在……的途中」，而on the path則多指「走上……的路」。例如：

（1）Hong Kong is right in the path of the typhoon（香港正正位在颱風所經的途中）。

（2）Mao Tse-tung, like Hitler, would do away with anyone standing in his path（毛澤東和希特勒一樣，會幹掉所有妨礙他為所欲為的人）。

（3）He is well on the path to success（他走上了成功的康莊大道）。

（4）Property prices are on the downward path（物業價格走上了下降的軌道）。

問：查字典，ice cream（冰淇淋）作可數（countable）或不可數（uncountable）名詞都可以。然則以下一句，應用much還是many？── He eats much / many ice cream（他吃很多冰淇淋）。

答：Ice cream、orange juice（橙汁）、coffee（咖啡）等，假如是指一客或一杯等的分量，才作可數名詞用，例如：An ice cream / Two ice creams, please（要一客/兩客冰淇淋）。讀者示下那一句，ice cream既不是指一客、兩客分量的冰淇淋，也不是用複數形式，當然不可用many。

至於much，文法上沒有錯，但much多用於否定或疑問句，例如：He doesn't eat much ice cream（他並不多吃冰淇淋）。He eats much ice cream這樣的肯定句，much讀起來頗不自然，最好改為a lot of。
