問：廣告有freshly local slaughtered pork這說法，英文有沒有錯？

答：這廣告不知讀者在哪裏看到，我也猜不準那四字的意思。假如要說「新鮮屠宰的本地豬肉」那應說freshly slaughtered local pork，副詞（adverb）freshly修飾形容詞slaughtered，而形容詞slaughtered和local則修飾名詞pork。

假如要說「本地屠宰的新鮮豬肉」，那應說fresh locally slaughtered pork，副詞locally修飾形容詞slaughtered，而形容詞fresh和slaughtered則修飾名詞pork。

日前，一位讀者寄下西貢獅子會自然教育中心的英文告示牌照片，告示牌上寫着：Exhibition halls close on 4:30 pm（所有展館於下午四時三十分關閉）。「於下午四時三十分」竟然可以寫作on 4:30 pm而不是at 4:30 pm，難怪那位讀者說：「我們怎能不懷念英治時期的香港。」

問：Down to earth是什麼意思？

答：Down to earth直譯是「落在地上」，指腳踏實地、不尚虛言，三字之間常用連字號（hyphen），作形容詞，例如：His plan is down-to-earth and has a good chance of success（他的計劃，實際可行，有機會成功）。
