問:有入場券寫着Please use public transport in coming to the stadium(請搭公共車輛前來體育館)一語。介系詞為什麼用in而不是to或for?
答:「In+ing動詞」,指「在做……過程中」或「在……的時候」,例如:
(2)In climbing the tree, he fell to the ground(他爬樹時,摔到地上)。Please use public transport in coming to the stadium有「來時請搭公共車輛」的意思。假如改為to come to the stadium,當然也正確,而且應比in coming通用。
至於for coming,文法同樣沒有錯,但也沒有to那麼常見。For較為強調目的,例如:Should public transport be used for advertising?(公共車船應不應供宣傳用?)
問:I have put one in the post for you today一語,是什麼意思?
答:In the post是「在郵寄中」,例如Your letter crossed mine in the post即「你我的信,同時相向寄出」,直譯則是「你我的信,在郵寄中交叉而過」。
I have put one in the post for you today即「我今天給你寄出了一件」,等於I have sent one to you today。假如郵購書籍,你也可以說:Could you put a copy of the book in the post for me as soon as possible?(這本書可不可以盡快寄一冊給我?)
