問：「不甘」英文怎麼說？例如「我不甘心做個平凡的人」。

答：梁實秋《最新實用漢英辭典》、北京外國語學院《漢英詞典》以及《最新林語堂漢英詞典》，都以unwilling譯「不甘」，例如unwilling to remain out of the limelight（不甘寂寞）、unwilling to lag behind（不甘落後）、unwilling to accept loss（不甘損失）等。這unwilling to改為loath to、not happy to或not content to也可以。

至於「我不甘心做個平凡的人」，英文可譯做I don't relish the idea of being a mediocrity。Relish是「品嘗、享受（食物）」或「喜愛」，和「甘」字意思頗為相似。Mediocrity則是平凡或平庸的人。

問：These practices can and do guide us in shaping the future that is God's will and all our need這一句，can and do應怎樣翻譯？又the future that is God's will是把God's will（上帝意旨）等同the future（未來），但這是兩件不同的事物，怎麼可以對等？

答：Can and do guide us直譯是「可以而且實實在在引導我們」。這「can and do+動詞」句式，見於英文並不奇怪，但中文幾乎從來不會說甚麼「可以而且實實在在」等，畢竟「實實在在引導我們」，自然「可以引導我們」，不必多說。所以，讀者示下那一句，我會翻譯如下：「這些做法，實實在在引導我們按照所需和上帝所願，開闢未來。」

又will、wish、concern等字，和另一事物對等，是很常見的，並不奇怪，例如：Your happiness is my will（wish）/ concern（我希望/關心你幸福）。
