問：地下列車門上有告示說：When doors are closing, do not exit or aboard（車門關上時，不要進出車廂）。句中的aboard可不可改為enter？

答：讀者說的這句告示，不知有沒有抄錄錯誤。無論如何，aboard是副詞（adverb），指「在（車、船、飛機等）上」，不可作動詞，例如：He was aboard the train when the bomb exploded（炸彈爆炸時，他在火車上）。要說「上火車」，一般用語是to get on / hop on / board a train。讀者說的那一句，我會改寫如下：When the doors are closing, do not get on or off。

至於exit or enter a train，文法也正確，只是這說法很少見。

問：一家公立醫院告示板上有一欄叫Patient Notice。但Patient Notice似應解作「耐心的告示」而非「給病人的告示」，對嗎？

答：「給病人的告示」當然可稱為notice to patients，但說patient notice也無不可。這是「名詞＋名詞」的用法，正如China trade（對華貿易）一樣。美國有法例規定，醫療機構必須把其保障隱私原則通知病人，這通知英文就叫做Patient Notice of Privacy Practices。

同樣道理，給顧客的通知也可稱為customer notice或notice to customers，例如：According to the customer notice, the supermarket will be closed for a week（顧客通告說，這家超級市場會關閉一星期）。
