問：查《牛津高階英漢雙解詞典》，out of the blue是「出乎意料、突然」的意思，然則「天突然下起大雨」，英文可不可以說The rain poured out of the blue sky？

答：Out of the blue其實就是out of a blue sky（出自藍天）的縮略，正如a bolt from（或out of）the blue（藍天出現的閃電）一樣。藍天閃電，自然是「出乎意料」或「突然」的，例如：After years of absence, he called me out of the blue（他不見多年之後，突然打電話給我）。天突然下起雨來，當然可以用這成語：

（1）The rained poured(down) out of the blue。

（2）It started raining out of the blue（突然下起雨來）。
