問：工程師學會屬下某社的茶聚邀請函說：Should you would like to join the tea gathering, please register on or before 15 October（有意出席茶聚者，至遲請於十月十五日登記）。Should you would like是正確說法嗎？

答：英文不可說Should you would like，宜改正為If you would like to...或Should you like to...。而這兩個說法，以If you would like to較好：would like是want（想、要）的委婉說法，着重對方的意願；Should you like to則等於If you should like to，那should有點「不肯定」的意思。例如：

（1）If you would like to see me, call me any time（你想見我，隨時打電話給我好了）。

（2）If you should change your mind, please call me any time（你假如改變主意，請隨時打電話給我）。邀請人家出席茶聚，應問「尊意如何」，不必表示「不肯定你來不來」。所以，用If you would like勝於用If you should like。

問：小女學校的老師說，because之前不用逗點，補習社老師卻說要用。究竟以下一句應不應加逗點於because之前？──We can't go to Julia's party because we're going away at the weekend（我們週末將外遊，所以不能參加朱莉雅的派對）。

答：這樣的句子，because之前一般不會加逗點。不過，逗點有時可有可無。讀者示下那一句，假如加逗點，表示稍一停頓之後，才說出不能參加派對的理由，也無不可。
