答：說眾人各有一件的東西，英文一般會用複數形式名詞，例如：They took their wives with them（他們和妻子一起去）。這一句假如用wife，似是說他們共有一個妻子。

讀者示下那一句，也宜用desks，例如：Okay, class, we will have a test now. Clear your desks, please, except for a pen（好，各位同學，現在來個測驗。請把桌面所有東西拿走，只許有一枝筆）。留意這一句要強調「只許有一枝筆」，所以一般會用單數形式的a pen，不用pens。
